Terminal Tiles is a split-flap display emulator - part creative toy, part ambient dashboard. Create messages, watch them flip, share with anyone.
A love letter to the mechanical split-flap displays you'd find in airports and train stations - the ones that clatter and flip to show departures, arrivals, and the occasional delay. Terminal Tiles brings that experience to your browser.
Create custom messages and watch them flip into place with satisfying mechanical animation. Use the full-screen clock as an ambient display. Export your creations as images or share them with a link.
Terminal Tiles was built by a lapsed developer who rediscovered the joy of building through AI-assisted programming. After years away from code, a curiosity about what AI could do led to a first project, then a second, a third, and now this - the fourth.
These projects are built collaboratively with Claude, Anthropic's AI assistant. The goal is simple: make things that are fun and useful for people.
Terminal Tiles is forked from FlipOff by magnum6actual - an open-source split-flap display that provided the foundation for the flip animation engine. We built on that base with new modes, theming, sharing, export, and more.
The project is MIT licensed and open source.
